
Melissa Burt DeVriese has been with Security First Insurance Company since 2009 and currently serves as President, where she oversees operations and leads the company’s strategy and corporate policy. She previously served as General Counsel and Chief Administrative Officer, guiding the organization through complex regulatory, legal, and operational matters.
After building her legal career in Washington, D.C., Melissa returned to Ormond Beach to help her father and the family-founded company and ultimately remained to help lead its long-term growth. Prior to joining Security First, she served as legislative counsel to a Member of Congress, as counsel within the U.S. Department of Transportation, and as an attorney at a national law firm. Today, she continues working with state leaders and industry stakeholders on issues impacting Florida’s homeowners’ insurance market.

Melissa earned her Juris Doctor from Georgetown University Law Center and holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Miami, where she graduated with honors in International Studies and Political Science.
She is a licensed attorney in Florida, Washington, D.C., and California, with a professional background rooted in regulatory law, public policy, and corporate compliance. Her legal training and multi-state licensure support her work navigating complex regulatory environments and public policy matters at both the state and national levels.

Melissa is deeply committed to community service and civic engagement across both nonprofit and industry organizations. She currently serves as Chair of the Board for Easterseals of Northeast Central Florida and as an Executive Board Member of The Institutes.
Her community leadership also includes serving as President of the Junior League of Daytona Beach and board service with the Ormond Memorial Art Museum. Through these roles, she has remained focused on strengthening community partnerships, supporting local nonprofits, and advancing initiatives that positively impact families and communities throughout the region.
